Exciting News from Lithuania: Virtual Presentation and Website Launch by NYMS Member
Andrew Kapochunas, a longtime contributor to the New York Map Society, will present virtually at CartoCon Vilnius this Friday morning. While travel to Lithuania isn’t possible, Andrew will still play an integral role in the conference with two key announcements.
1- The Successor to LithuanianMaps.com
Andrew has long been a steward of Lithuanian cartographic history, maintaining the popular LithuanianMaps.com website. This valuable resource has now found a new home with the Lithuanian Cartographic Society. The official launch of the successor site is being celebrated with fanfare, including a promotional poster (pictured below) displayed across Vilnius University. The new platform will ensure continued access to this rich collection of historical Lithuanian maps, dating back over 500 years.

2- Lithuanian Environmental Map Prize
Andrew will also announce the winner of the Lithuanian Environmental Map Prize, an annual award celebrating innovation in environmental cartography. This year’s prize honors a unique, interactive, web-based map created by Lithuanian citizens. The map captures photographs of environmentally significant sites, accompanied by personal narratives explaining their importance. Stay tuned for more details, as Andrew will share insights about this remarkable project after the conference.
The New York Map Society is proud to support Andrew’s continued contributions to the global cartographic community. We look forward to hearing more about these developments and celebrating the impact of his work.
